— Allyssa Ferrell jumped right into the high school girls golf season with bang.

After completing a successful summer on the Wisconsin PGA Junior Tour on Thursday, the Edgerton junior began her school’s first season with its own team by winning the Madison Edgewood Invitational here Friday.

Ferrell, who won the Rock County Women’s Championship last weekend and tied for third in last year’s WIAA Division 1 state tournament while representing the Cambridge/Edgerton co-op team, blistered the Yahara Hills course with a 1-under-par 35-36—71. That gave her medalist honors by three strokes over Edgewood’s Doyle O’Brien.

Edgewood’s defending WIAA Division 2 state champions won the invitational team title with a 322. Janesville’s C.J. Enrique shot an 81 for the Crusaders, who prevailed by eight strokes over Mequon Homestead, which finished third in last year’s Division 1 state tournament.

Janesville Parker’s defending Big Eight champions, led by Molly Rozeboom’s 40-41—81, finished sixth with a 354. Janesville Craig, which was making its season debut, shot a 403 to finish one stroke ahead of Edgerton’s first-year team.

Katie Brossard backed up Rozeboom with an 89 for Parker, followed by Amanda Becker’s 91 and Jennifer Polglaze at 93. Kyleigh Fenton led Craig with an 89, and teammate Lindsey Beals had a 94.

“I was happy with the way we played,’’ Parker coach John Zimmerman said of his Vikings, who won the Elkhorn Scramble on Thursday. “The competition was tough, and that’s the reason we go up there.’’

Along with Edgewood and Homestead, the invitational included defending Division 1 state champion Green Bay Notre Dame and three other schools that placed in the Division 1 top nine last season.
