Parker golfers win Elkhorn Scramble
Janesville Parker’s defending Big Eight champions are off to winning start in the 2008 high school girls golf season.
The Vikings shot a 68 in the Elkhorn Scramble to win Thursday’s four-player, best-ball event by two strokes over Elkhorn’s No. 1 team at Evergreen Golf Course.
Katie Brossard, Molly Roozeboom, Amanda Becker and Jennifer Polglaze enabled Parker to break the tournament record of 69, which the Vikings set in winning the title a year ago.
“It was a great way to start the season,’’ Parker coach John Zimmerman said. “The girls played really solid, and we’re ready to go.”
Parker and Elkhorn were followed in the team totals by Wilmot and Union Grove, each 73; Lake Geneva Badger, 75; Lancaster, 76; Fort Atkinson, 80; Racine St. Catherine’s, 82; Elkhorn No 2, 86; Lakeside Lutheran and Whitewater, each 88; East Troy, 90; Waterford, 91; and Delavan-Darien, 98.
Parker returns to action today at Yahara Hills in the Madison Edgewood Invitational, which also includes Janesville Craig in its season opener.
