— Steven Hirschfeld was the man in charge Thursday night at Pohlman Field.

Hirschfeld pitched seven innings of five-hit, one run baseball, and it was more than enough to give the 6-foot-5 right-hander his ninth win of the Midwest League season as the Beloit Snappers rolled to a 6-1 victory over the Quad Cities River Bandits.

Beloit gave Hirschfeld the early lead with two runs on three hits in the first inning. Yangervis Solarte and Mark Dolenc got the RBIs as Beloit went up 2-0.

Greg Yersich scored from third on Chris Cates’ double to make it 3-0 in the second, and the Snappers pulled away from a 3-1 lead with a three-run fourth. Ben Revere’s two-run single to left-center field was the key hit.

Chris Anderson and Danny Hernandez each pitched one inning of scoreless relief to protect a victory that lifted Hirschfeld to 9-4 and the Snappers to 28-25 for the Western Division’s second-half race.

Beloit and Quad Cities complete their three-game series here at 7 tonight.
