— Edgerton Hospital and Health Services and Edgerton Care Center are parting ways, but it appears the two will remain close.

The organizations are separating so Edgerton Care Center, the nursing home on two floors of the hospital, can raise money on its own for a new building, said Sunny Bowditch, hospital spokeswoman. The change should not affect the center’s 61 residents, she said.

Edgerton Hospital is planning a new, $30 million hospital and medical office building on Highway 59. The care center plans to build a $6 million facility with 50 beds for skilled nursing care and 20 beds for assisted living.

As its own organization, the care center can tap into different types of funds, Bowditch said.

The Edgerton Hospital Capital Foundation will continue to raise money for the hospital and care center. It will give $500,000 of the more than $1.5 million it already has raised to the care center, and donors now can specify whether they want to donate to the hospital or the care center, Bowditch said.

The hospital hopes to break ground on its new campus later this year.
