Fort defeats Evansville in Home Talent playoffs

— Fort Atkinson squeeked past visiting Evansville, 6-5 in 10 innings, in the opening round of the Southeast Section playoffs of Home Talent League baseball here Sunday.

The Generals (11-5) advance to Utica (11-4) at 1 p.m. next Sunday to play for the Southeast championship. Utica defeated Jefferson, 7-2, in the other first-round game.

Scott Kammer produced a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the 10th for Fort’s winning margin against Evansville. Kraig Baum reached on a walk and scored on Kammer’s hit.

Evansville (10-5) scored four runs in the eighth inning to tie the game at 5-5. Nick Manion hit a two-run homer, and Nic Larson smacked an RBI single to drive in the tying run.

Reliever Chris Koepke held Evansville scoreless in the final two innings to gain the victory.
