— The Janesville City Council will consider the applications of another group of candidates for city manager in closed session Thursday, Aug. 21.

Manager Steve Sheiffer retires Friday, Sept. 5. Jay Winzenz, director of administrative services, will serve as interim manager until a new manager is hired.

The council in July interviewed five candidates but decided none were the best fit for the city.

The council’s recruiter has gathered a different group of candidates—about 20—from which the council will choose a group of finalists. Interviews will be held the week of Sept. 8, said Amy Loasching, council president.

Loasching said she doesn’t think anyone from the city’s staff has applied for the position.
