Janesville native training troops for Afghanistan
A Janesville native, having commanded troops in Iraq, considers the "troop surge" a successful strategy.
Craig High School Grad, Colonel Andrew Poppas tells WCLO's Stan Milam show the "surge" prompted more religious militias to turn on Al Quaeda. Poppas says the surge provided an umbrella of security, showing a commitment by America to the local population, with the hope of prompting them to become part of a stronger national entity.
Poppas is home on leave, but after a recent promotion, he expects to soon be commanding a Brigade for deployment in Afghanistan.
