Quick start sparks Milton
A quick start propelled Milton’s American Legion team to victory in an opening-round game of the Class AA state baseball tournament here Friday.
Milton (28-5) scored three runs in the bottom of the first en route to a 5-3 win over Kimberly. Milton will play Merrill at 8 p.m. today in a winner’s bracket game.
Dan Dean delivered a three-run double in the first to give Milton the lead for good. Chris Nelson was hit by a pitch to start the rally before Grant Stewart and Nick Meyers walked to load the bases.
Milton pushed the lead to 5-0 in the fourth on Josh Meyer’s two-run single.
Sean McCann went the distance for Milton in picking up the win. The righthander allowed only three hits in improving to 10-0 on the season. Kimberly was the WIAA Division 1 runner-up this past season and the 2007 state champ.
