— Two Janesville Parker errors, a walk and a hit batsman allowed Middleton to race to a 3-0 first-inning lead, and the Cardinals went on to a 5-1 victory Tuesday in Big Eight softball.

“That first inning was a mess.” Parker coach Dyann Riley said. “Defensively, we weren’t ready to go.”

Parker (5-7, 4-6) got its lone run in the fourth when Carol Anne Maveety stroked a leadoff single and scored on a double-steal attempt.

The Vikings play at Madison La Follette today and host Janesville Craig on Thursday.
