— No one was injured in an early Sunday morning house fire, Janesville Fire Department Shift Commander Bill Ruchti said.

Firefighters responded at 12:41 a.m. to a one-and-a-half story rental home at 1605 S. Willard Ave., to find flames and smoke showing from the back of the house, he said.

No one was home at the time.

“The fire had been maybe burning for awhile because it pretty much gutted the interior of the house,” Ruchti said.

The home suffered “very heavy damage” on the inside, but it is unclear if the structure will be a total loss, he said. Contents of the home that are valued at $30,000 are a total loss, he said.

The owner of the property is Michael J. Bouziane of Janesville, he said, and a tenant was possibly in the process of moving out.

Cause of the fire is under investigation, and authorities have not yet determined where the fire started, he said.
