Janesville Craig High’s girls soccer team is starting to find the winning touch.

After dropping its first four games to start the season, the Cougars won their second straight on Friday night. Craig battled back from an early deficit to beat Elkhorn, 3-1, in the opening game of the Cougar Invitational.

Nicole Gutzman scored the go-ahead goal for Craig at 72:11 of the second half off a penalty kick, and Emily Legreid picked up an insurance goal three minutes later to conclude the scoring. Emma Fashing tied the game late in the first half on an assist from Kristy Benson.

“Elkhorn caught us a little off guard at first with its speed,” Craig coach Bill McCabe. “After that, we played pretty well and finally got some shots past their keeper.”

Craig will play Tomah at 10 this morning, followed by Green Bay East at 1 p.m.
