Craig boys third at Watertown

VThe Janesville Craig High boys track and field team finished third at the Watertown Inivitational on Friday.


The Cougars posted 119 points, getting edged by a half point for second place by Milwaukee King. Baraboo (1342) won the meet.


Craig’s 3,200 relay team of Ryan Ahrens, Alex Crandall, Matt McDonald and Joey Kennedy took the Cougars’ lone first place finish in 8:25.51.


Meanwhile, Craig’s Ryan Kincade finished second in the 100 dash (11.81), Ahrens finished second in the 1,600 (4:35.32) and third in the 3,200 (10:06.42). Greg Pederson finished second in the shot put (48-2.75) and David Yazumbek finished second in the pole vault (10-0) for Craig.


“I thought we did real well as a team,” Craig coach Jeff Deininger said. “We are continuing to improve. We ran some great times.’’

Craig girls finish fourth


at Watertown Invitational


Abby Mayer won the pole vault to lead Janesville Craig’s girls track and field team to a fourth-place finish at Friday’s Watertown Invitational.


Host Watertown won the eight-team invite with 149.5 points, with Milwaukee King finishing second with 113. The Cougars were fourth with 98.


“Having Abby win the pole vault was good because that means she’s starting to get back on track,” Craig head coach Mark Marsden said of his defending Big Eight Conference champion.


Nikki Scieszinski finished second in the 300 low hurdles for Craig with a personal best time of 49.78.


Craig’s 400 and 800 relay teams both finished third.
