Parker baseball falls to Sun Prairie
The Cardinals raced to an early lead en route to an 8-1 win in Big Eight Conference action.
Parker managed only six hits and struck out eight times against Michael Handel. The righthander went the distance, and the only run he allowed was unearned.
“He wasn’t overpowering, and we hit the ball hard, but it was always right at somebody,” Parker coach Brian Martin said. “Their centerfielder made two diving catches, and the third baseman made a really nice play to kill another scoring threat.
It’s a tough loss because we were so excited coming up here on the bus after winning yesterday and really disappointed coming home.”
Sophomore Tyler Teubert took the loss for Parker. The righthander allowed nine hits and five earned runs in four innings of work. B.J. Scharenbroch pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Teubert, and also had three of Parker’s six hits.
“B.J.’s been really swinging the bat well the last three or four games,” Martin said. “Hopefully, it will start rubbing off on the rest of the team.
“We’ve got another game tomorrow, so hopefully we can forget about this one.”
Parker (3-4) will host Hartford today in a nonconference game at Riverside Park at 5 p.m.
