Monroe tennis tops Craig

Monroe rolled to a 7-0 victory over Janesville Craig in a nonconference tennis match Thursday.

The Cheesemakers (2-0) won all four singles matches in straight sets.

The Cougars (1-2) put up a fight at No. 3 doubles as Keny Durfee and Stuart Winter, a newly formed team, pushed Monroes Nick Hendrickson and Trevor Arn to three sets.

“We were experimenting a little with our doubles pairings,” Craig head coach Gary Hallowell said.


Singles—Carson Root (M) def. Ben Timblin, 6-1, 6-1; Matt Le (M) def. Steve Mickelson, 6-3, 6-3; Artem Bralgio (M) def. Ben Tanko, 6-1, 6-1; Dan Becker (M) def. Doug Johson, 6-1, 7-6 (9-7).

Doubles—Matt Turk-Levi Janssens (M) def. Chris Matteson-Jace Fenton, 7-5, 6-1; Jim Kundert-Mark Hoesly (M) def. David Jacowski-Bryan Stevens, 6-4, 6-2; Nick Hendrickson-Trevor Arn (M) def. Kenny Durfee-Stuart Winter, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Junior varsity—Monroe 6, Craig 1.
