Janesville Parker and Sun Prairie’s softball teams combined for 23 hits Thursday, but the Vikings couldn’t come up with enough clutch hits to earn the Big Eight Conference victory.

Michaela Miller had three hits and Billie Weber added a double and a triple to lead the Cardinals to a 7-2 win.

Parker (4-4, 3-3) tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second, but Sun Prairie responded with three runs in the third.

“We left eight on base and only struck out twice, but Sun Prairie really crushed the ball,” Parker coach Dyann Riley said.

Alex Klawitter was 2-for-4 for Parker and scored both runs. Lindsay Kluge and Tess Fiedler picked up RBIs for the Vikings.

Jones, Lancers blank Cougars—Madison La Follette’s Michelle Jones was nearly unhittable Thursday for Janesville Craig’s softball team.

The Cougars managed only two hits off Jones in losing 2-0 to the Lancers in a Big Eight game at Dawson Field.

The Lancers (6-1) built a 5-0 lead after three innings.

“Jones single-handedly carried La Follette to the state quarterfinals a year ago,” Craig coach Dan Bayreuther said. “Her rise ball is tough to lay off of, and for the most part, we couldn’t do that tonight.”

Abby Geiger’s double was one of only two hits for the Cougars.
