Parker soccer blanks East; Craig falls

— Janesville Parker’s girls soccer team blanked Madison East, 3-0, to win its Big Eight Conference opener Tuesday.

The Vikings’ scored all three goals in the second half. Nicole Strieker scored twice, while Carol Moore also scored for Parker.

“It was a major team effort today,” Parker coach Matt Beisser said. “Everybody played their role.’’

Strieker broke the ice with goal off an assist from Bridget Kortyna at 53 mintues. Moore followed at 61 mintues with an assist from Ashleigh Busfield and Strieker closed off Parker’s scoring with a goal at 79 minutes off an assist from Kelsey Bysted.

Parker (4-0, 1-0) will host Clinton tonight.

Middleton tops Craig

Middleton 2, Craig 0—Janesville Craig High pushed mighty Middleton to its limit but lost 2-0 in its Big Eight Conference girls soccer opener at Middleton on Tuesday.

The Cougars outshot the Cardinals 11-10.

“We made two mistakes and Middleton capitalized on both of them,” said Craig coach Bill McCabe. “We controlled 75 to 80 percent of the first half. All the play was in their defensive end.’’

Middleton’s Sammy Vovos scored at 14:20 and again at 31:36 in the first half. Craig lost Kelsey Kennedy to a concussion in the first half.

“The players all stepped up,” McCabe said. “They did what they had to do and kept playing.’’

Craig will travel to Sun Prairie on Thursday for a 7 p.m. match.
