— Janesville Craig got three dominating singles wins and two comeback victories in doubles to knock off Sun Prairie, 6-1, in a Big Eight tennis meet Tuesday.

Craig’s Nos. 2, 3 and 4 singles players—Jace Fenton, Steve Mickelson and Ben Tanko—won in straight sets. The three combined to win 36 of their 41 games.

“They just took command of their matches and never let go,” Craig head coach Gary Hallowell said.

The Cougars (1-1 overall and Big Eight) also got comeback victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles from the teams of Doug Johnson and Ben Timblin and David Jacowski and Bryan Stevens. Both teams trailed 5-4 in the first set. Johnson and Timblin rallied to win 7-5, 7-5.

Jacowski and Stevens came back to win their opening set in a tiebreaker and then took the second set 6-3.

Kenny Durfee and Stewart Winter gave the Cougars their other victory with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Both teams had to battle Tuesday’s gusty winds.

The Cougars will host Monroe on Thursday.
