— Janesville Craig High School had its problems in the field en route to a 6-4 loss to host Madison East in Big Eight Conference baseball Tuesday.

“It was a sloppy game for both teams,” Craig coach Victor Herbst said. “There were 10 runs scored and only two were earned.’’

Both teams committed four errors.

“We committed just as many errors as they did, but ours hurt more,” Herbst said.

East scored three runs in the second inning and held a 4-2 lead after three innings. The Purgolders scored twice in the fourth for a 6-2 lead. Craig added a pair in the fifth for the final result.

“We would peck away, but we would give it right back,” Herbst said.

Craig starter Brett Fredricks allowed five hits and six runs—one earned—through four innings to take the loss. Fredricks walked four and added seven strikeouts.

“Mental errors killed us,” Herbst said. “We make our plays and we win the game.’’

Craig (3-3, 2-3) will host Madison La Follette at 5 p.m. today.
