Warhawk baseball team sweeps

— UW-Whitewater beat the cold and UW-Stout twice in WIAC baseball at the Metrodome early Saturday morning.

In a doubleheader that began at 1 a.m., the Warhawks posted 9-7 and 6-0 victories. The games were scheduled for Whitewater.

In Game 1, Stout bolted to a 3-0 lead, but Warhawks (15-4, 8-2) bounced back to tie it in the bottom of the first.

Whitewater rolled to a 7-3 lead before Stout cut the deficit to 7-6 in the sixth inning. Whitewater added two insurance runs in the eighth.

The Warhawks pounded out 11 hits, including Kevin Zalnis’s fifth home run of the season.

In Game 2, Whitewater’s Joe Munn and Greg Donovan combined on a four-hit shutout.

Munn allowed all four hits through 6q innings. Munn notched six strikeouts and walked three. Donovan pitched 23 innings of hitless relief, adding three strikeouts and no walks.

Whitewater is scheduled to play Stout at home Monday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Prucha Field.
