Authorities arrested a Beloit man Sunday night for causing harm while drunken driving on an ATV after a crash sent his passenger by helicopter to a Rockford, Ill., hospital, according to a Rock County Sheriff’s Department news release.

Richard T. Hendricks, 26, Beloit, was arrested on charges of causing great bodily harm by intoxicated use of an ATV, operating on a roadway and a registration violation, according to the sheriff’s department.

According to the sheriff’s department:

Authorities were called at about 8:34 p.m. to Bradford/Clinton Townline Road and O’Riley Road, about 5 miles northeast of Clinton. Responders found that Hendricks was operating an ATV on the road with a passenger, Danielle Waltman, 23, rural Clinton, when the ATV overturned and ejected both occupants.

Because an ATV was involved, a Department of Natural Resources warden took Hendricks into custody, and the sheriff’s department assisted.

Waltman was listed in critical condition this morning at Rockford Memorial Hospital, while a condition for Hendricks was unavailable at Beloit Memorial Hospital by press time.
