— Janesville Craig High’s girls soccer team didn’t win a game in the two-day Kenosha Tremper Invitational, but the Cougars proved they could play with two of the state’s best teams.

Craig lost 5-0 to Kenosha Tremper on Friday night before falling 1-0 to Muskego on Saturday. Tremper and Muskego are both ranked in the Coaches’ state poll.

“We’re going to be a better team for playing a schedule as tough as ours,” Craig coach Bill McCabe said. “Tremper is a suberb team, and we played even with them the last 50 minutes. The Muskego game was back and forth until we had a little lapse early in the second half, and they scored.

“Playing teams like this will help our girls because they will have more confidence when we go up against a team like Middleton in our conference. We’re going to be OK.”

Craig goalie Sofia Sanchez made 18 saves in the two games, while the Cougars got 13 shots on goal.

The Cougars will play a nonconference game at Kettle Moraine on Thursday night.
