La Follette comes back to down Parker
After Parker tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth, La Follette pushed across four runs in the seventh en route to the 6-2 Big Eight Conference victory at Dawson Field.
Parker starter Mary Kate Tracey struck out seven, but she couldn’t keep the Lancers from scoring in the seventh.
“I thought Mary Kate threw well for the first game. We just didn’t get her enough help,” Parker coach Dyann Riley said. “We left somebody on base every inning.
“It was a typical first game. We did some good things, but we also have some things to work on.”
La Follette led 2-0 in the third when Parker cut the lead in half. Kelley Koebler doubled and scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1, and the Vikings tied the game in the fifth on an RBI groundout by Lindsay Kluge.
Michelle Jones got win as she limited Parker to six hits while striking out six.
“Jones picked her spots and had a nice change-up,” Riley said. “She wasn’t overpowering. We just couldn’t string any hits together.”
Alex Klawitter had three hits for Parker, which plays Middleton at Dawson this afternoon.
