An apparent phone line problem caused a 40-minute delay in compiling election results Tuesday but should not affect totals, Rock County Clerk Lori Stottler said.

Results came so quickly into the county’s analog modem that when some wards filed, the data was doubled with the data from previous filings, she said.

Stottler got on the phone to the county’s technical support desk then called all the wards that had filed results to confirm the accuracy.

Today, Stottler will work with the software provider to analyze the way election data were handled. The information will help solve the problem in future elections, but should not affect Tuesday’s results, which are “99 percent accurate,” Stottler said.

That's it, blame the computers. To
quote HAL9000, "This is obviously a case of human error, Dave".
