— Voters approved a much-needed reconstruction of Third Avenue along with a handful of other improvements, including replacement of aging sewer and water lines.

Village Administrator Kelly Hayden said village officials “really didn’t know what to anticipate,” but are pleased with the outcome.

“It’s definitely one that has been on the project plan from day one,” she said.

The project includes burying utilities, reconstructing and resurfacing Third Avenue, reconstructing portions of Reid and High streets, improving Little Foot playground and rebuilding the boat trailer parking lot.

Hayden said that for some voters, the project’s location in the village’s tax incremental finance district was enough for them to say no. Some people just don’t approve of spending village money that way, she said.

Construction will be staggered throughout the fall and next spring for completion before next summer.
