Teen charged in crash pleads not guilty to violating bond

ELKHORN -- A Genoa City teen charged in a Nov. 3 fatal drunken-driving crash pleaded not guilty Friday to violating her bond a second time by drinking alcohol.

Krystal A. Hart, 17, waived her preliminary hearing on the bail jumping charge and was ordered to stand trial. She also was cited for misdemeanor underage drinking stemming from the violation.

Hart is suspected of blowing 0.147 on a breath test in LaFayette Township at 12:30 a.m. Sept. 20 despite a court order not to drink alcohol, according to the criminal complaint.

She also is accused of drinking alcohol at a March 15 party in Lake Geneva, resulting in her first bail jumping charge, according to the criminal complaint.

Man faces trial in contract killing case

JANESVILLE -- Joseph R. Chrislaw Sr.’s defense to charges that he tried to have his estranged wife and her boyfriend killed apparently will be that he tried to back out of a deal that he is charged with making with an undercover cop.

Chrislaw, 46, of 733 Kellogg Ave., No. 3, Janesville, is charged with two counts of soliciting first-degree intentional homicide. He was bound over for trial Friday in a preliminary hearing. Court Commissioner Stephen Meyer entered not guilty pleas on his behalf.

Chrislaw remains in custody at the Rock County Jail in lieu of $30,000 cash bond—$15,000 on each charge. His next court date has not been scheduled.

 

'Supernanny' to finish filming Sunday

Monterey Stadium might get new owner

JANESVILLE -- The city of Janesville is proposing to transfer ownership of Monterey Stadium to the Janesville School District.

The district has leased the stadium from the city since 1985, when the city and district became separate fiscal entities.

Over the years, the district has been in charge of making improvements to the facility in Monterey Park. Recently, the city and district split the cost of building a ramp to make the concrete grandstand accessible to people with handicaps.

The city recently approached the district, asking if there is interest in transferring ownership, according to recent memo to Superintendent Tom Evert from Doug Bunton, director of business services.
