Strange as it might sound, the hot new trend in education is creating faith-based schools without the faith. Establishing a charter requires shedding overt religious identity because “religious charter school” is a First Amendment oxymoron. Although free from some regulations that apply to traditional public schools, charters are still public schools. That means they must be nonsectarian—neither promoting nor denigrating religion.

WHITEWATER -- The Whitewater Police Department is one of 16 accredited agencies in the state, including the Janesville Police Department. Wisconsin has more than 600 law-enforcement agencies. The Whitewater Police Department, which has 38 employees and 24 sworn officers, is the smallest accredited department. It is the only accredited agency in Walworth and Jefferson counties.
