— An ad hoc committee formed to select a new Rock County Clerk has made its decision.

The committee will recommend Janesville School Board member Lori Stottler to replace retiring Clerk Kay O’Connell in January.

“I’m overjoyed,” Stottler said.

Stottler was one of five finalists for the position. The board will discuss her appointment and vote it up or down Thursday, Nov. 15.

Stottler, 39, has worked as the business administrator for First Lutheran Church in Janesville for three years. She is pursuing a degree in business management.

O’Connell plans to retire Jan 15, Stottler said.

If Stottler is appointed Nov. 15, she will work part time with O’Connell to learn the ropes, she said.

Stottler will have to run for re-election as clerk in November 2008.

She was elected to the school board unopposed in April 2006.

The other candidates were:

-- Steve Engelbert, Janesville, legislative aide for the Wisconsin Assembly.

-- Wilson Leong, Milton, retired marketing director for The Janesville Gazette.

-- Sarah McLean, Janesville, case manager in Rock County’s long-term support program.

-- Patricia Thom, Janesville, a professor at UW-Rock County.
