— Authorities are investigating at least four daytime burglaries on the west side of Geneva Lake, including a Sunday-morning home invasion.

Village police say a burglar entered a Fontana home through an unlocked patio door at 6:45 a.m. Sunday. The burglar was confronted by the homeowner but fled with a purse and jewelry, according to a news release issued by the Fontana Police Department.

The Walworth County Sheriff’s Department is investigating three similar daytime burglaries on the west side of Geneva Lake.

Sheriff’s department Capt. Scott McClory said no confrontations or injuries were reported in connection with the burglaries his department is investigating.

McClory said he didn't know of anyone entering a room and confronting someone and then taking items; rather, they're taking “small things that are just laying around,” a watch, a purse and its contents, expensive sunglasses, “things you'd leave on your kitchen table,” “things within easy, quick access,” he said.

Undersheriff Kurt Picknell said the sheriff’s department has no suspects in the break-ins.

Police reminded homeowners to lock doors and windows, especially during hours of darkness. Vehicles parked outside also should be locked.

Anyone with information about the burglaries should call Walworth County CrimeStoppers at (262) 723-2677.
