Defending champs send Craig packing

Janesville Craig High’s shot at upsetting defending state champion Westosha Central in a Division 1 WIAA volleyball regional final ended with the visiting Cougars falling 3-0 to the host Falcons on Saturday.


Craig lost 25-15, 25-13, 25-7. The Cougars conclude the season 22-23.


“They had two middle hitters about 6-2 and both did well offensively and passed the ball well,” Craig coach Blake Budrow said. “We played pretty darn well. Sophia Sanchez had 12 kills.”


Second-seeded Westosha, the top-ranked team in the state, will face top-seeded Burlington, 3-0 winners over Elkhorn, this Thursday in a sectional semifinal at Lake Geneva Badger High.


Burlington defeated Elkhorn, 25-15, 25-14, 25-22.

Second-seeded Big Foot (27-8) advances to a sectional semifinal showdown against top-seeded Waukesha Catholic Memorial on Thursday at New Berlin West.
