Janesville man honored by AARP Wisconsin

— Allen Birmingham of Janesville was honored with one of AARP Wisconsinís highest awards, the Tax-Aide Volunteer Counselor of the Year Award, during the 2007 AARP Volunteer Recognition Awards Ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 11, in Madison.

The award recognizes one volunteer counselor in Wisconsin each year for his or her work in the Tax-Aide program, which is coordinated by AARP and the Internal Revenue Service. Birmingham has been active in the program since 1995.

Birmingham, who also received the 2007 IRS Award, has accepted the new position of district coordinator, in which he will oversee a region of the state and will recruit volunteers, setting up sites for Tax-Aide and organizing events.
