Delavan presents proposed budget

- Highlights: The city experienced growth in new property valuation in 2006 of 9.62 percent, which would have permitted a tax levy of more than $5.4 million.

The general fund is balanced at $5.88 million, a 5.84 percent increase over last year. The two key components of the increase are salaries, wages, overtime and benefits and an $85,000 command vehicle for the fire department. Generally salaries and wages increased 3 percent.

The budget proposes borrowing $2.2 million to extend public sanitary sewer in TID No. 4 and to support the next phase of development at Lake Lawn Lodge.

- What’s next?: The finance committee has called a special meeting Saturday, Oct. 27, to meet with the city administrator and department heads. The city council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, Nov. 20. The board plans to approve the final budget Tuesday, Nov. 27.
