Two dead in Jefferson County crash

— A car skidded into the opposing lane of state Highway 26 Sunday and collided with an oncoming pickup truck, killing two people and injuring three others.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the accident happened in the town of Aztalan at 2:44 p.m.

Two of the three people in the car were pronounced dead at the scene and the other was hospitalized, as were both people in the pickup truck.

Sheriff’s officials said the truck hit the passenger side of the car, sending both vehicles into the ditch.

Names of the victims were not immediately released.
