— Members of the Rock County Tavern League are helping the local Odd Fellows, whose Main Street lodge was trashed and burned Nov. 3, by giving the lodge 10 percent of their sales Saturday night and collecting donations through Dec. 31.

Downtown bars are committed to the effort, though all establishments in the league are invited to participate, said Denise Carpenter of Quotes Bar & Grill, 24 N. Main St.

“That organization has been giving to Janesville for 150 years and also was instrumental in helping out with Rock Around the Block, which supports downtown Janesville. They raise money for everybody, and it’s time we give them something back,” Carpenter said.

Jeremy A. Brown, 24, of Homewood, Ala., has pleaded not guilty to charges of burglary, theft and criminal damage to property in connection with damage to the Odd Fellows lodge.

Rock County Tavern League President Sharen Hoskins agreed that the International Order of Odd Fellows Janesville Lodge No. 14 deserves help.

“They have been here and in the community for a long time, so this was an opportunity to help them out,” Hoskins said.

Carpenter has distributed pledge sheets to local taverns. The goal is to raise $2,000 in pledges before the end of the year.

“This is for a good cause, so we planned on doing this between now and Christmas when people are a little bit more into the giving season,” Hoskins said.

“Anybody is welcome to make a donation to the Odd Fellows at any time to help them pay for this tragedy,” Carpenter said.
