— The Survivors of Suicide group will light a regional “Memory Tree of Lights” to honor victims of suicide at 6 p.m. Saturday at Hope Lutheran Church, 335 Dairyland Drive, Milton.

Lighting the memory tree is to support families of suicide victims while cherishing the memories of their departed loved ones, said Brad Munger, of the Rock County Community Support Program. Memory trees are spreading across the United States and internationally.

The tree will be decorated with Christmas lights and ornaments displaying the names of suicide victims. Karen Gleason, a survivor and a Milton resident, will be doing the honors. Gleason lost her son, Brandon Carnitz, 19, to suicide on Oct. 29, 2003, and her cousin Greg Barnhardt, 38, five years ago.

If you would like to place the name of a loved one on the tree, call Gleason at (608) 302-9090 or e-mail her at pudgyspal@yahoo.com.

At the tree lighting, information will be available on the first Survivors of Suicide support group being formed in Rock County. For more information, contact Munger at munger@co.rock.wi.us or (608) 757-5739.
