— Letters such as these keep the Walworth County Council of the American Legion holding Support Our Troops rallies every Monday in Elkhorn:

Dear Walworth County Council American Legion,

I am humbled and honored you have thought enough of me to send a wonderful card of thanks along with a phone card for me to call home.

What perfect timing it was to have that phone card as my wife just gave birth to my daughter Grace on 4 November.

I was able to use the calling card to hear my wife and newborn baby. Thank you.

You are great Americans for the service you all have given to this country and the service you are providing to our soldiers.

I will tell you first hand—as this is my second deployment to Iraq, and third for the War on Terror—having great support and supporting Americans such as you back home providing a note, card or a special folded flag only reinforces everything is OK back home. This allows us to remain ’mission focused.’

After a long convoy or a security patrol, nothing picks up the spirit of a soldier better than a piece of mail. Once again, thank you for your support.

Fall time in Elkhorn is my favorite time of the year. My parents, Ron and Linda Dunwiddie, often send little weather reports and cutouts from the newspaper keeping me informed of local happenings.

God Bless you all.

Maj. Scott B. Kindberg.

Monday, Dec. 3, will mark the 150th weekly support rally.

The public is invited to attend the rallies at 11 a.m. every Monday in the county board room of the Walworth County Government Center, 100 W. Walworth St., Elkhorn.

Donations can be sent to Support Our Troops, PO Box 821, Elkhorn, WI, 53121.
