The Rock County Land Conservation Department is taking orders for its yearly Tree, Shrub and Prairie Seed Sale. Inventory of trees and shrubs is limited so order early for best selection.

Trees and shrubs come in single species bundles of 10 for $12, 25 for $22.50 or 50 for $42.50 plus tax. All seedlings are bare root. Trees come in the following sizes: 18-24 Black Cherry, Black Walnut, Bur Oak, Pin Oak, Red Oak, Sugar Maple, White Oak and White Spire Birch; 12-18 American Larch; 12-16 Colorado Blue Spruce and Eastern White Cedar; 10-18 Fraser Fir; 7-15 Norway Spruce, White Pine and White Spruce. All shrub seedlings are 18-24 tall.

Shrubs include American Plum, Arrowwood Viburnum, Gray Dogwood, Highbush Cranberry, and Ninebark. Tree protectors/ tubes (4 feet tall) and root gel are available this year.

Enhance open spaces, plant a new oak savanna, or treat problem areas on your property with prairie perennials. Native, Wisconsin-grown prairie seed is blended for many site conditions from seasonally dry to wet, full sun to partial shade, and any area from 500 square feet to one acre.

Mixes contain approximately six species (economy) to over 20 species (premium). Site prep and early care instructions are included. Prairies can take a few growing seasons to get established. Once established, maintenance is minimal. Prairies provide food and shelter for many small animals and birds throughout the year.

All plants and seed will be ready for pick-up in mid-April. Order forms plus complete plant and seed lists are available by calling (608) 754-6617 Ext. 3 or visit www.co.rock.wi.us.
