UW-Whitewater teams open with victories

— UW-Whitewater’s 25th-ranked men’s basketball team tipped off with a show of strength Friday night.

The Warhawks jumped to a 10-0 lead and went on to a 79-45 victory over Eureka College in the second semifinal game of the Tip-Off Tournament in Williams Center.


Milwaukee School of Engineering beat North Park (Ill.), 69-63, in the opener and plays Whitewater for the championship at 7 tonight.


Sophomore guard Kevin Koski made four free throws to spark Whitewater’s early spurt. Eureka came back to force a 12-12 tie at 11:42, but the Warhawks followed with anothere 10-0 outburst to lead 22-12.


Junior forward Billy Kolinske accounted for eight of the 10 points to help Whitewater to a lead it never relinquished. The Warhawks extend ed their advantage to 77-42 with 2:09 remaining.


Janesville Craig graduate Josh King, guard Matt Goodwin and Kolinske had 12 points apiece to lead the Warhawks. King was 6-for-6 on field-goal attenmpts.

UW-W women win


UW-Whitewater romped to a 92-46 victory over Millikin in nonconference women’s basketball opener Friday at the Millikin Tournament.


Whitewater was ranked No. 18 in the D3hoops.com preseason poll, while Millikin was 14th.


The visiting Warhawks’ Tiffany Morton scored 21 points, while teammate Kelsey Hendrickson added 14 points, and Meghan Schmidt got 12. Whitewater used 14 players.


Whitewater scored 44 points off turnovers and collected 23 second-chance points. The Warhawks led 53-25 at halftime.


The Warhawks playin the title game at 4 p.m. today.
