Darien village budget
-- The village continues to keep spending down so it can receive money under the budget restraint program. Last year, the village received $79,976 through the program.
-- Two key components of the increased budget are salaries, wages and benefits and increased fuel costs.
-- The village will have an 18.9 percent increase in debt service next year, as it borrowed money this year to pay for construction on Madison Street. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is doing stormwater drainage improvements on Highway 14 from County X to Madison Street, and the village decided to make Madison Street wider to accommodate for more semi truck traffic.
-- Property values in the district increased by about 10 percent over last year.
What’s next: The city council will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at Darien Village Hall, 24 N. Wisconsin St., Darien.
