— A look at the 2008 budget for the city of Evansville:

The Evansville City Council approved the 2008 budget Tuesday night.

Highlights: The council voted 7-1 to borrow $200,000 from the state trust fund to buy the post office building for future expansion of the Eager Free Public Library. Alderwoman Barb Jacobson was the dissenting vote.

The vote doesn’t mean the city bought the post office building—it only secured financing for the purchase, council president Mason Braunschweig said. A motion to make the buy will be discussed at the December meeting, Mayor Sandy Decker said.

The post office building, 16 S. First St., was appraised at $211,500, and council members heard that number for the first time Tuesday night, she said.
