UW Whitewater ousted from NCAA soccer tournament

UW-Whitewater’s appearance in the NCAA Division III men’s soccer tournament ended with a 1-0 first-round loss to Dominican University on Saturday at Fiskum Field.

Dominican’s Matt Kochanowski scored the winning goal unassisted with 82 seconds remaining in regulation. Kochanowski intercepted a pass about 20 yards to the right of the Whitewater goal.

The Warhawks played a man down from 82:49 when junior Brett Acree received a red card.

Whitewater goalkeeper E.J. Sesselmann made seven saves, while Dominican keeper Piotr Silwa made two saves. Dominican had 15 shots on goal to Whitewater’s eight.

The Stars (17-3-1) will face Washington University (15-6-2)—Carthage 2-1, in a regional final at 1 p.m. today at Fiskum Field. Dominican is making its sixth straight appearance in the NCAA Division III tournament.

Whitewater, which made its sixth NCAA apperance in seven years, finishes the season 15-3-2.
