Anderson scores 37 as Badgers cruise

— Jolene Anderson was the go-to gal Friday night for the University of Wisconsin’s women’s basketball team.

Anderson scored a career-high 37 points as the Badgers opened their regular season with an 82-62 nonconference victory over Cleveland State.


Anderson scored 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting in the first half as Wisconsin built a 43-36 lead. Cleveland State had taken advantage of Badger fouls to convert 12 of 16 free throws while grabbing a 19-14 lead with 10:45 left in the first half.


After that, Anderson went to work. The senior All-America candidate scored seven straight points in a 9-0 run as the Badgers gained the upper hand.


Cleveland State tied it two more times, 29-29 and 31-31, before the Badgers edged ahead for good on a 6-0 run by Anderson that made it 37-31.
