Beloit College football finishes strong

— The Beloit College football team finally tasted victory in 2007 defeating visiting Grinnell College 16-13 in overtime Saturday at Strong Stadium.

The Buccaneers’ Souk Stephens kicked a 21-yard field goal to complete a six-play drive in the OT for the Midwest Conference victory. Beloit concludes the season 1-8 in the Midwest Conference and 1-9 overall.

Grinnell kicked a 20-yard field goal with nine seconds left in regulation to send the contest into OT.

The Pioneers had the ball first in overtime and missed wide-left on a 42-yard field goal. Beloit ran six plays to the four where Stephens’ kick put Beloit in the winner’s circle.

Beloit quarterback Joe Davis threw for 117 yards. Julian Ross made three catches for 85 yards. Jeff McLaughlin had 70 yards rushing while Davis chipped in with 60.

The Buccaneers’ Nelson Suarez made 22 tackles, seven solo, with a pass break-up while Tony Baratti had 15 tackles.
