— The main entrance of Parker High School will be closed for more than a year starting Monday or Tuesday, the school announced.

The half-circle drive leading to the front entrance, which is used by hundreds of students, parents and others each day, also will be closed.

Principal Dale Carlson urged parents and students to carpool to ease congestion.

Student drop-off and pick-up will be shifted to the west parking lot, also known as the student lot.

The school also suggests dropping off and picking up:

-- On the south (school) side of Mineral Point Avenue to the west and east of the construction zone, in front of the building.

-- Waveland Road to the east of the campus.

-- Bond Place to the south of the campus.

All bus drop-offs and pick-ups will be on the east and south sides of the building.

The handicapped-accessible entrance/exit will continue as it has been in back of the building and will continue to be accessible to students riding the bus.

Another handicapped-accessible entrance/exit will be located on the north side of the building, near the west parking lot. That entrance leads into the music hall, which leads to the commons.

Parking for visitors, which had been at the main entrance, will be designated in the west lot. Visitors will enter through the west (commons) doors and will be required to report to the main office to sign in when a greeter is not stationed at the west entrance.
