Elkhorn boys collect basketball tournament title

Elkhorn High School’s boys basketball team outlasted Oconto Falls, 38-34, for the Northland Pines tournament championship Saturday at Eagle River.


The Elks gained a 16-7 second-quarter advantage for a 25-21 halftime lead. Skyler O’Laughlin scored six of his 12 points in the second quarter to spark the Elks.


Elkhorn’s Eric Bryson made three out of four throws down the stretch to ensure the victory. Bryson finished with 14 points.


Elkhorn (7-2) made just four field goals in the second half.

McFarland Tournament


n Milton 79, McFarland 76—Milton (5-3) raced to a 16-13 advantage in overtime to top the host Spartans (2-7) in the third-place game of the McFarland tournament.


Mason Walters, who led the Red Hawks with 28 points, hit a three-point shot with 35 second left in regulation to force a 63-63 tie and the overtime.


Matt Drew started the overtime with a three-point goal that put Milton ahead for good. The Red Hawks then made nine of 10 free throws in the extra period.
