— A Sharon man died Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash on State Line Road east of the village.

Edward L. York, 58, was pronounced dead at Mercy Walworth Hospital and Medical Center about an hour after the 6:03 a.m. crash.

Thomas W. Teichen, 74, of Sharon lost control of his eastbound Volkswagen Jetta on the icy roadway, Walworth County Sheriff’s Sgt. Mark Roum said.

Teichen said the bright headlights of York’s westbound Jeep blinded him. He went off the road and overcorrected, coming into the westbound lane.

York appears to have veered to the right and was sideswiped by the Volkswagen. His Jeep Cherokee flipped once and was on its passenger side in the ditch when police arrived, Roum said.

Both were transported to Mercy Walworth Hospital.

Teichen was treated for minor injuries and was citied for not wearing a seatbelt.

The road was snow-covered and icy at the time of the crash.

York was the 13th person to die on Walworth County roads in 2007, Roum said.
