Bluebirds remain perfect

— Janesville’s high school co-op hockey team gave its fans a holiday treat, pounding the Rockford Icemen, 6-2, at the Janesville Ice Skating Center on Saturday.

The Icemen (27-8), a traveling team of Rockford high school players, trailed 2-1 after two periods.


The Bluebirds (6-0) took over in the third period with three straight goals for a 5-1 lead.


Kenny Durfee scored two straight goals, Tommy Tralmer added the third goal and Grant Jahns scored a fourth goal at the buzzer.


Aaron Jacobson got Janesville rolling with a goal off assists from Kaleb Eichman and Ross Mauermann 21 seconds into the first period.


Derek Mussey put Janesville up 2-0 at 2:19 for the in the second period.


The game marked Bluebirds’ coach John Mauermann’s return to the bench after a school-district imposed five-game suspension.


“It’s nice to keep things consistent,” Mauermann said. “It’s the same group, I just got to stand with them.”


Janesville travels to McFarland on Friday for a 7 p.m. game.
