Viking girls remain in first place

Janesville Parker High pounded Beloit Memorial 57-42 to keep pace with Middleton for the top spot in the Big Eight Conference girls basketball race Saturday.
Catie O’Leary did all the heavy lifting for the visiting Vikings, scoring 26 points, including an 8-for-9 performance from the free-throw line.
While O’Leary was scoring, the Parker defense held Beloit’s big gun, 6-foot, 1-inch Brianne Monahan to eight points. Briana Carroll finished with 10 points for Beloit.
Parker led 17-13 after the first quarter and put the game away with a 13-5 second-quarter advantage for a 30-18 lead at the half.
Parker (5-0, 4-0) will face Middleton in a possible showdown for first place this Saturday at Middleton.
