Elkhorn, Milton boys collect big SLC wins

Elkhorn High put in its bid to be a contender in the Southern Lakes Conference boys basketball race.


The Elks raced out to an 18-5 lead and beat visiting Delavan-Darien, 47-28, Friday night.


Elkhorn moves into a second-place tie with both Delavan-Darien and Milton at 2-1 in the league behind first-place East Troy (3-0).


Eric Bryson led the Elks (3-2) with 12 points, while sophomore center Skyler O’Laughlin added 10 points. This is only the second year the 6-10 O’Laughlin has played basketball.


Max Findreng scored seven of Elkhorn’s first 18 points and finished with eight points.


Kevin Nieuwenhuis and Jarrett Fowlkes each had eight points for the Comets (4-3).

n Milton 47, Jefferson 29—The Red Hawks gained a 14-5 first-quarter advantage and rode it to their second Southern Lakes’ victory.


Milton’s Desmond Pollard and Craig Jansen scored four points apiece in the decisive first quarter. Mason Walters finished with 11 points to lead the Red Hawks (3-2 overall, 2-1 in SLC).


Trevor Probst led Jefferson with 13 points.

n East Troy 63, Whitewater 42—East Troy collected nine three-point goals and made 16 of 19 free throws to drill visiting Whitewater and grab the undisputed SLC lead.


The Trojans (5-1, 2-0) took control in a 19-8 first quarter, during which four East Troy players each hit a three-pointer.


Allen Loth made seven of eight free throws and had two three-pointers to lead East Troy with 17 points. Tom Manscot’s 13 points for the Trojans included three three-pointers.


Miles Hookstead and Tony Bilderback had 13 and 10 points, respectively, for Whitewater (0-3, 1-3).

n Fort Atkinson 64, Waterford 55—A short-handed Fort Atkinson team outscored visiting Waterford by eight points in the final quarter to win the nonconference game.


The Blackhawks were missing three starters due to injuries and illness, but they were able to improve to 2-2. Jacob Enslin led Fort with 19 points and John Kotz had 11.
