— Aaron Jacobson’s hat trick highlighted the Janesville Bluebirds’ surge to another victory Saturday night.

Janesville’s co-op high school hockey outshot Madison West, 35-12, in the first two periods, then broke away to a 7-2 triumph with four goals in the final period at the Madison Arena.

The win boosted the sixth-ranked Bluebirds to 5-0 for the season and kept them atop the Big Eight Conference at 4-0.

Tyler Parks’ goal on an assists from Grant Jahns and Derek Mussey at the 14:24 mark of the first period gave Janesville a 1-0 lead it never relinquished. Jacobson’s first goal, which came on assists from Zach Bayreuther and Ross Mauermann at 10:28 of the second period made it 2-0.

Janesville led only 3-1, however, on a second-period goal by Mussey before breaking the game open in the final period. Jacobson got his other two goals in the third period, while Mauermann and Tommy Tralmer did the Bluebirds’ other scoring.

The Bluebirds play next Saturday in a 6 p.m. nonconference game at Rockford, Ill.
