La Follette rolls in Big Eight basketball

There was no stopping Madison La Follette High School’s charge into a tie for the Big Eight boys basketball lead Thursday night.


The host Lancers (4-1) were hitting on all cylinders as they drilled Madison West, 90-56, to go 3-0 in the conference and pull even the idle Madison Memorial.


Cashton Craig scored nine of his game-high 21 points for La Follette in a 20-10 second quarter that gave the Lancers a 39-22 halftime lead. Javonte Walters had 11 of his 17 in a 30-19 fourth quarter that completed the rout.


D.J. Fuller added 19 points for La Follette.


Michael Horton led West with 17 points, but Big Eight scoring leader Corvonn Gaines was held to eight as the Regents slipped to 2-1 in the conference.

n Middleton 72, Beloit 58—Eleven Middleton players scored as the Cardinals bounced visiting Beloit Memorial (0-5, 0-4) to reach 2-1 in the Big Eight and 2-2 overall.


Brett Semenas had 13 points, and Dan Trautman and Jon Stubbe each added 10 for the Cardinals, who took a 62-42 lead into the final quarter.


Jahlil Smith had 18 points, and K.J. Evans 10 for the Purple Knights.

n East 61, Sun Prairie 51—Madison East (2-2) used a 12-1 finish in the last four minutes to leave Sun Prairie (1-2) behind in a Big Eight game on the Purgolders’ court.


Sun Prairie led 50-49 before Al Mayne’s seven-point fourth quarter helped spark East’s final surge.


After sitting out last week with a concussion, sophomore standout Marquis Mason was East’s game leader with 24 points. He scored 18 in the first half.


Mayne finished with 13, while Matt Waldon led Sun Prairie with 17.
